Exercise – Multiple points

I found this exercise to be quite a challenge. So I added a simple black carnival robe to create a neutral background.[/caption] far with photography, I have enjoyed the idea of ‘capturing’ an image, rather than ‘constructing’ an image.
The idea of spotting an interesting composition seems easier than constructing one from nothing.
I struggled for a while when considering what to photograph for this exercise. I searched my apartment for some interesting objects. I had just returned from the Carnival in Venice, so the mask was already lying around. Once I chose this as my first object, an Italian theme started to develop, what with the red punch, the wax and the seal stamp, all of which are Italian. This led me to add in the Italian key. Overall, and without prior planning I seem to have created a composition with an Italian whodunnit / Cluedo type theme.

First I added a simple black carnival robe to create a neutral background.

Then I added the mask, leaving space for other objects.
